Erotic Couples Massage: Oils, Candles, and Techniques
Erotic massage is the longest form of foreplay that exists, and it is also the one that works best for those who arrive at the end of the day with their mind elsewhere. It doesn't require professional technique: it requires a warm room, good oil, and the patience not to rush. Here is how to prepare and how to do it.
Before Touching: Preparation
Half of the success is determined before you even begin.
- Room temperature. It is the most underestimated detail of all: someone who is naked and still for half an hour gets cold much sooner than the person moving around realizes. The room must be warmer than usual.
- A large towel on the bed. Oil stains, and knowing you are staining the sheets ruins the moment halfway through the massage.
- Phones out of the room, low light, and no stated time limit.
- Warm hands. Warm them under water if needed: cold hands cause flinching, which is the opposite of the goal.
Oils and Candles: What to Use
Massage oil
It must be warmed between your hands before applying it to the skin, never poured directly. You need more than you think: if your hands drag instead of gliding, you don't have enough. You can find dedicated formulas in the massage collection.
Massage candles
They are the most elegant invention of their kind: low-melting-point waxes that melt at a warm temperature and become oil to be poured directly onto the skin. They provide light, fragrance, and warmth in a single item. You can find them in the Shunga line. A regular decorative candle, however, will burn you: it is not the same thing and should not be used.
The mistake to avoid
Massage oil is not an intimate lubricant. It degrades latex, making condoms unreliable, and it is designed for the skin, not for internal use. If the massage leads to something else, change products: our lubricant guide explains which one to choose and why.
Basic Techniques
You don't need a course. Three movements, alternated calmly, are enough.
Effleurage (Gliding)
Palms open, light pressure, long and continuous movements that cover the entire back. It serves to distribute the oil and lower one's guard. This is how you begin and end.
Kneading
More assertive, on the shoulders, trapezius, and glutes, where there is more muscle mass. Work with your body weight, not arm strength: if you get tired in five minutes, you are pushing incorrectly.
Thumb pressure
Along the two sides of the spine, from bottom to top. On the sides, never directly on the spine, and never with firm pressure on the kidney area.
Order Matters More Than Technique
There is only one rule: save the obvious areas for last. Back, shoulders, arms, legs, feet, nape of the neck. Then the front. And only at the end, if you get there, everything else. The anticipation is exactly the erotic content of the massage: those who jump straight to the point get much less out of it.
Areas that almost no one touches and that work very well: inside of the arms, behind the knees, base of the neck, hips, feet.
The Wand, Which Was Born for This
The wand massagers have a curious history: they were originally created as true muscle massagers, and they work perfectly on the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Using them this way at the beginning, when nobody is thinking about anything else yet, is the best way to introduce them into a couples' massage. Then the conversation takes its own course.
Talk While You Do It
Asking "harder or softer" doesn't ruin the atmosphere, it improves it: guessing the right pressure is impossible, and insisting on the wrong one is the fastest way to kill the mood. This also applies to the recipient: saying so is a favor you do for both.
In Summary
Warm room, towel on the bed, oil warmed between hands, slow movements, and obvious areas last. It is foreplay that lasts half an hour and counts for two, and it connects perfectly to everything else: if you want to build an entire evening around it, also check out our guide on couples' foreplay. Oils, candles, and accessories are in the massage and couples collections.
