The Safety Rule That Comes First
Anything that goes into the anus must have a wide, flared base. This is not just an aesthetic detail: unlike the vagina, the anus is not a closed channel, and an object without a stopper base can slip inside and require medical intervention. It happens more often than you would imagine, and always for the same reason.
From this follows the other rule: no improvised objects. The butt plugs on the market have that base, non-porous materials, and no sharp edges. A household object has none of these features.
How to Choose Your First Plug
Size
Small. Much smaller than it seems when looking at photos. A first plug has a slim diameter and a tapered tip that makes insertion gradual. You can size up later, if and when you feel like it.
Material
Soft silicone is best for beginners: it is flexible, adapts to you, and is forgiving of mistakes. Metal and glass are beautiful, but they are rigid and heavy: these are a second or third purchase, not your first.
Shape

Lubricant Is Not Optional
